For the sixth year, the Sun Conference Softball Tournament will return to Legends Way Ballfields at the National Training Center. On May 3, six teams from the southern United States will fight for the title of Conference Champion. The winner of this fastpitch softball event will advance to the NAIA Softball Regionals in hope of winning a bid to the NAIA Women’s Softball World Series, which is also held at Legends Way Ballfields this year.
“We love hosting the Sun Conference. So many of these teams play here during THE Spring Games and it is not unusual for one or two of these teams to make it to the World Series. It’s like having family come home,” said Alison Strange, President of PFX Athletics, the non-profit who hosts the softball championship. PFX Athletics is a non-profit organization dedicated to opening the doors of opportunity for women and girls through sport.
“Hosting championship softball events like the Sun Conference allow us to create opportunities for girls in the Clermont, Lake County, and Central Florida areas (like Orlando) to see college softball in action. There are many more college softball opportunities than those you see on ESPN,” says Strange. “Many of the teams in the Sun Conference play right here in Florida and have scholarship opportunities for high school softball players who want to play in college.”
The Sun Conference is a college athletic conference affiliated with the NAIA. Eight of the twelve full member institutions are located in Florida, with three in Georgia and one in South Carolina. The Sun Conference competes in the NAIA in all sponsored sports.
The Sun Conference Softball tournament will take place May 3-5, 2018 at Legends Way Ballfields, 2350 Legends Way, Clermont, Florida. For the latest standings and to see which teams might be participating in the event, click HERE.
